Originally from Rocky Mount, NC, Dr. Bowers attended UNC-Chapel Hill where he obtained his BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. Following graduation, he worked in public relations agencies from Greensboro, NC to New York City, but eventually realized his calling was elsewhere. After shadowing a local dentist, a new passion emerged, and Dr. Bowers fell in love with dentistry. The rest, as they say, is history.
Dental school led Dr. Bowers back to Chapel Hill, and he is proud to be a “double Tar Heel.” He attended the UNC Adams School of Dentistry, where he not only earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery, but also met his wife, and fellow dentist, Roberta.
Dr. Bowers was drawn to Jewell Dentistry because of shared values around conservative restorative dentistry. He believes “less dentistry is better dentistry”
and strives to help his patients keep their natural teeth. He is also especially passionate about helping his patients sleep better. He has done extensive
continuing education through the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and has earned their designation of Qualified Dentist to treat obstructive sleep apnea with custom-made dental appliances.
Dr. Bowers is committed to serving the Wilmington community, personally and
professionally. He spends numerous hours attaining continuing education each
year, including attendance at the prestigious Pankey Institute for Continuing Dental Education. He is also a member of the Cape Fear Dental Society, the North Carolina Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
When he is not creating beautiful smiles in the office, Dr. Bowers spends his time cooking for his wife, playing disc golf, and chasing their wheaten terrier, Wally, around the house. He and his wife have a goal of seeing all of the U.S. National Parks and spend numerous weekends each year flying around the country in pursuit of this lifelong goal.
