In-office bleaching/whitening

Teeth whitening is a procedure that removes stains and discoloration from teeth. In-office bleaching typically uses 15% to 40% peroxide – much stronger amounts than used in the kits you can buy at the drugstore. Depending on the status of your teeth, it usually takes a couple of visits to our office to achieve the shade of white you desire. We use a combination of heat and light in order to for the process to be quick, but effective. In-office bleaching, however, cannot whiten crowns or tooth bridges that are currently in your mouth.

Reasons for Teeth Bleaching/Whitening

Everybody dreams of a whiter smile, and most people do not have that perfect shade of white to begin with. As we age, our teeth can become discolored by number of reasons such as:

- Our genetics

- Poor oral hygiene habits

- Trauma experiences

- Long-term smoking

- Usage of certain drugs or medications

- Types of color-coated food and beverages

Are you a candidate for in office bleaching/whitening?

Almost anyone over the age of 14 with discolored teeth can benefit from whitening. Teeth that are discolored because of tetracycline or excessive fluoride, however, are not good candidates for the whitening procedure. As long as you maintain good dental habits, you will experience very little discoloration over time.
